ONE PERSON KILLED IN CRASH INVOLVING FIRE APPARATUS – NORTH CAROLINA

Authorities said one person was killed in a crash with a West Buncombe fire truck Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened about 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Lees Creek Road and the entrance to Eblen Intermediate School, West Buncombe Fire Department Chief Dennis A. Fagnant Jr. said in a news release. Firefighters rendered emergency care to the driver of the other vehicle, who was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the person had died. The person’s name is not being released.

No firefighters were injured.

The crash happened when the ladder truck was responding to a possible structure fire at Erwin High School.

The collision is under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
