VA. FIRE RIG HIT HEAD ON EN ROUTE TO CALL, 2 FIREFIGHTERS HURT

Two firefighters and a driver were injured after a head-on collision on Friday night.

According to Pittsylvania County Public Safety, Gretna Fire and Rescue wasresponding to a smoke call in the area of 241 Crown Road around 7:18 p.m. on Friday.

Within two minutes of the fire crew responding, an 84-year-old driver in a 2016 Toyota Camry turned from Chaney Lane onto East Gretna Road, crossed the center lane and collided head-on with the 2008 Kenworth Fire Tanker.

Two firefighters with Gretna Fire and Rescue were taken to a local emergency room for evaluation and later released.

The 84-year-old man was also taken to the emergency room with minor injuries but was later released.

The Gretna Fire Department said both firefighters are sore but are doing well.
