COBB CO. GA RIG CATCHES FIRE AFTER BEING STRUCK ON I-20

Earlier this morning Cobb Fire’s Engine-9 responded to a vehicle accident on I-20 between Thorton Rd. & Riverside.

While tending to the wreck, a car struck the back of Engine-9, resulting in Engine-9 catching fire and becoming fully involved. Company-1 and Engine- 27 were then dispatched & quickly arrived on the scene to help their brothers and sisters.

Thankfully, Engine 9’s crew was not inside the Fire Apparatus at the time it was hit.
Engine-9 was struck at 4:08am and suffered extensive damage (total loss).

All police and fire on the scene were uninjured. Our crews courageously rescued the driver from the burning vehicle almost immediately, despite being surrounded by heavy flames and zero water protection. The patient was transported to the hospital (unsure of the patient’s condition at-this time). The driver was the only one in the car.
