THREE NC RIGS STRUCK AT SCENE

Last week, Firefighters from the Millers Ferry FD in North Carolina were working a tractor trailer fire on I-85—the rig was carrying cotton. Multiple apparatus was blocking and protecting when they were struck. These members were very fortunate. One Firefighter was working a deck gun and reportedly jumped off the apparatus when the crash was imminent.
Once again a no-nonsense reminder of the risk we have when operating on roadways. We are fortunate in our area that the Ohio State Patrol fully supports traffic management (see TIMS training below) and they never hesitate to cooperate with us when a road must be shut down. When in doubt-do what’s best for the victims, the cops, the motoring public and the firefighters operating a scene. WHEN IT DOUBT-SHUT IT DOWN using the TIMS training and your department’s policies.
