Brief details have been released in the cause of death of a Conway firefighter during a fire on March 20.
According to WMBF and WPDE, Conway firefighter Christopher Ray was killed after being backed over by a fire engine while at the scene of a residential structure fire.
The report released by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety says that while the driver of the fire engine was attempting to back up, Ray jumped onto the fire engine, slipped and became entangled in the hose. The fire engine then backed over Ray.
Christopher Ray’s death was the 14th on-duty death of 2016, according to the United States Fire Administration.
