In the midst of Friday evening’s snow squall, Sutton firefighters had their hands full with accidents.
Due to the high volume of accidents, they requested help from New London and Warner Fire Departments. While en route to an accident, a Warner firetruck went off the road and rolled over.
Three firefighters were in the truck at the time of the incident. They were all evaluated, and released on scene.
The Sutton Fire Department said they initially responded to about 15 accidents on 1-89, before calling for help.
The clean-up took multiple hours, with firefighters on the scene until about 11:30 p.m. Friday.
“There were cars off the road everywhere,” a Sutton firefighter recalled. “The cold weather, and frequent snow squalls made for instant black ice under the snow.”
Since it was a weekend night, officials say traffic was already expected. The bad weather and accidents added to it.
One person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
