A FIRE engine has crashed into a ditch while returning from a call.
The collision involved an ‘appliance’ from Fordingbridge which was returning to the village after attending an incident in Dorset and was not on blue lights.
At around 1.30pm yesterday it came off the road in Bowerwood Road, on the outskirts of Fordingbridge.
Six firefighters were aboard at the time and were assessed at the scene by the ambulance service.
They did not need to attend hospital and the fire station has since posted on social media to thank well-wishers for their messages.
A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The welfare of our firefighters is our absolute priority and we are liaising closely with their families and colleagues to support them at this time.
“We will work closely with Hampshire Constabulary, who are leading an investigation, to establish exactly what happened in this incident.
“Arrangements have been made to ensure no interruption to our emergency cover in Hampshire.”
