Five people were hospitalized with minor injuries after a minivan slammed into a fire truck in the Seminole Heights neighborhood of Tampa Saturday night, officials said.
The incident occurred near the intersection of 19th Street and Hanna Avenue.
Officials told News Channel 8’s Gabrielle Shirley they believe the van failed to stop at a stop sign and ran into a fire truck that was returning from a call. The impact sent the fire truck into a tree, and then into a power pole, downing power lines in the area and causing electricity to briefly go out.
Three firefighters were taken to the hospital and two of the three passengers in the minivan were also hospitalized to treat minor injuries. Officials said everyone is expected to be okay.
The area near the intersection will be closed for a few hours as crews repair the live lines on the ground.
