Four people were hurt in a crash involving a James City County fire truck and a septic truck, according to Stephen Rubino, James City County deputy police chief.
Around noon, a James City County fire truck was driving with lights and sirens on to a reported structure fire in the 9500 block of Richmond Road, Rubino said.
While the fire truck was going west at the intersection of Richmond Road and Rochambeau Drive, called Anderson’s Corner, a crash happened with a septic truck. The septic truck was also going west on Richmond Road. Rubino did not know which truck hit the other because of the ongoing investigation.
Two people were riding in each vehicle. The two people in the septic truck suffered “serious injuries,” according to Rubino, and they were taken to the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Two firefighters in the firetruck were also hurt and taken to Riverside Doctors’ Hospital in Williamsburg.
The road is closed at Anderson’s Corner as crews investigate and clean up the crash. Water from the firetruck and about 4,000 gallons of septic waste spilled because of the crash, Rubino said.
