Three Gaston firefighters escaped serious injury Monday evening in a traffic accident involving a fire engine.
Gaston Fire Chief Mike Dobbs said the three volunteers were released after being examined in the emergency department of IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
The engine was being driven to a traffic accident near Ind. 332 when a motorist’s failure to get out of the way set in motion events that saw the fire engine leave the 6900 block of North Delaware County Road 600-W, go into a ditch and strike a utility pole.
Dobbs said Tuesday he believed the fire engine could be repaired and returned to service.
