Two men were injured after a Waukomis fire truck ran off the road Thursday afternoon near Bison while responding to a fire call.
The Waukomis firefighters were transported to Integris Bass Baptist Health Center after being trapped inside the truck. They were treated and released, said Waukomis Fire Chief Clarence Maly.
Waukomis Fire Department personnel were responding to a controlled burn that got out of control northeast of Bison when a water tanker overturned. The water tanker was traveling south on Leona Mitchell toward Osborne Road when it went off the right side of the road and rolled, coming to rest on its side.
Maly said both men had to be cut out of the truck. The 2,000 gallon tanker was a total loss, he said.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Waukomis Police Department and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident, which still is under investigation.
Hennessey and Pioneer Skeleton Creek fire departments assisted Waukomis in battling the fire, which was under control by 5 p.m.
